This year’s series of summer evening concerts in the Ceremonial Courtyard of Pest County Hall winds up with works by an unusual yet well-matched pair, Antonio Vivaldi and Astor Piazzolla, who refines the tango dance form in classical music. These two composers suit each other well because the most famous and astoundingly popular violin concerto of Vivaldi was the inspiration for the 20th century Argentine master – working more than two centuries after the ‘Red Priest’ – to immortalize in music the four seasons, or more precisely, their ambience in the city of Buenos Aires. Soloists of the Vivaldi quartet that is heard between the two works dedicated to the slow turning of the year are picked from the strings section of Concerto Budapest. In addition to the two concertmasters (multiple competition winner and globetrotting artist Miranda Liu as well as permanent member of Keller String Quartet Zsófia Környei), principal instrumentalist of the violin section Zsuzsanna Berentés and permanent member of this orchestral section Antal Tabányi perform the competing violin solos in the tenth of Vivaldi’s legendary concerto collection, L’estro armonico in H minor.
