The string quartet in D minor, which started the day, is the second in a series that Mozart dedicated to Joseph Haydn. The piece may have been composed in 1783, when Constanze was pregnant with their first child, Raimund. The G minor piano quartet, similarly a 1785 vintage, has an equally prominent place and role, being one of the early masterpieces of the piano quartet canon and at the same time a dynamic example of Mozart’s G minor compositions. For this work, Keller Quartet musicians are joined by the brilliant Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt, particularly celebrated for her recitals of Bach works.
